This book is based on a true story and how I, Nettie V Cherniatenski, received a calling and was granted an earthly angel. This story captures the day-to-day firsthand experience with approximately 2,000 displaced Ukrainians fleeing the war in Ukraine in 2022 and 2023.
This closet wasn’t your regular closet found in a home. It was a closet located in a building in a commercial space in the north industrial area in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A closet that shared tears, hugs, grieving hearts, feelings of shame, and lots of gratitude. I chronicle the hours, days, and months as I travelled this unfamiliar journey with all of these people. Some were individuals, others were families with only a mother, and some had both parents, but quite often, some families had a mother or mother-in-law in tow to help with the babysitting.
All that I have experienced, felt, and learned these 14 months changed my life in many ways, and I found there was no way that a journey like this could have been taken without my faith, which grew stronger and stronger each day I woke up.
“Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:29
Emily Dickinson wrote, “The soul should always stand ajar; ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.” I feel I did exactly that with absolutely no regrets.
